UW- La Crosse

James H. Mack Scholarship Fund for Public Policy Advocacy
Established by alum Jim Mack, class of ’57, to support students in a public policy career. Mr. Mack currently resides in Arlington, VA, and established this scholarship in 2008.
Criteria:

  • recipient must be enrolled full time at UW-La Crosse with a major in political science, public administration or economics;
  • recipient must be a junior or a senior;
  • recipient must show interest in pursuing a career in the public policy arena in either the public or private sector;
  • recipient must have reputation for integrity and good ethical behavior;
  • recipient must have participated in the political process (e.g. public office, assisting others in attending public office, student government and/or campus association relevant to this award)
  • with the application, recipient must submit an essay on a domestic public policy issue (of the recipient’s choice) demonstrating knowledge of the issue and promoting arguments in support as well as opposition to the issue in addition to stating personal point of view on the issue and why

    Carolyn G. Berg Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund
    Established by family and friends in Carolyn’s memory to support music education and political science/public administration.
    Criteria:

    • sophomore or junior to be enrolled full time with a major in music education or political science
    • above average grade point average
    • financial need should be considered
    • first preference given to a student with a Bangor, Wisconsin, address
    • if there are none qualified, next preference shall be given to a student who has a permanent address located within a 100 mile radius of La Crosse

      Maurice and Elizabeth Graff Scholarships — Political Science and/or Public Administration
      Established by Dr. Maurice O. Graff who served UW-L as an instructor, student personnel officer, dean of the college, vice president, and vice chancellor for academic affairs.
      Criteria:

      • sophomore, junior or senior to be enrolled full time with a major in political science/public administration
      • at least a 3.0 gpa
      • must plan to continue school and graduate at UW-L

        Joseph P. Heim Graduate Scholarship Fund
        Established by friends of Joe Heim for his outstanding guidance and commitment to the pursuit of student excellence in political science and public administration where he is currently on faculty.
        Criteria:

        • graduating senior with a major in political science or public administration planning on attending graduate school
        • above average gpa
        • financial need may be considered
        • committee is to weigh three areas of criteria for this award: (a) academic performance, (b) community involvement, and (c) political involvement
        • award is to fund graduate studies for recipients in the areas of political science, public administration or law

          Dr. Richard Lindblad Political Science Award
          Established in 1984 for the general support of the political science department by providing monies for scholarships and other functions which the selection committee deems appropriate for the enhancement of the department’s objectives.
          Criteria:

          • undergraduate to be enrolled full time with a declared major or minor in political science or public administration
          • above average grade point average
          • demonstrated leadership potential and involvement in both campus and community activities

            UW Oshkosh

            Dr. Charles Goff Education and Political Science Scholarship

            full- or part-time student enrolled within the College of Education and Human Services Social Studies Program or within the College of Letters and Science Political Science Program. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must demonstrate , through the application procedure, potential for becoming an effective professional by an understanding of the Education or Political Science Process, and dedication to Leadership in the Education or Political Science Profession. Applicant must have a junior standing and have at least one semester remaining following the semester in which he or she applies.

            Dr. Ray Anderson Scholarship
            Awarded to a student majoring or minoring in Political Science. Student must have completed at least six semester hours in Political Science, must be active in partisan or nonpartisan politics at the national, state or local level or in student government. Preference given to students who are or have been involved in environmental politics.

            Robert L. Berg Scholarship
            Awarded to a student in political science; has completed at least 60 credits with 8 credits are in political science; has demonstrated leadership ability; and a GPA of no less than 3.0.

            Lew Garrison Coit Scholarship
            Preference given to students taking government or economic related courses. Students must have demonstrated leadership ability and deportment that has been deemed satisfactory.

            Denis P. Hickey Memorial Scholarship
            Awarded to a junior majoring in Political Science who has satisfactorily completed 60 or more credits; is in the upper third of the class; shows evidence of leadership capabilities through active participation in school, church, or community; and be satisfactorily progressing toward a degree as determined by the advisor. The scholarship will be renewed for a second year if eligibility continues.

            Dominic Svec Family Memorial Scholarship
            Students must be majoring in Political Science. Preference will be given to a student from the Ellsworth area. Preference will be given to a student who may have given serious consideration to working for the federal or state government in some capacity.

            Kenneth S. White Memorial Scholarship
            Awarded to sophomore or junior political science major pursuing the pre-law curriculum.  After these curriculum are met, the applicant with the highest GPA should be selected.

            Outstanding junior political science or public administration and policy analysis major.

            Outstanding student, preference given to students from Fond du Lac County.

            Upper division political science or public administration ad policy analysis major.

            Political Science Elks Scholarship

            Political science major.

            Bhola Singh International Affairs Award

            Outstanding student interested in international affairs. Must have at least 12 credits of comparative and or International politics.

            Richard Toser Public Administration Award

            Outstanding public administration and policy analysis student.

            University of Wisconsin-Whitewater

            Dr. John F. Kozlowicz Scholarship in Legal Studies

            This awarded to a student interested in pursuing a career in law or legal studies. An applicant must be a Political Science Major or Public Policy and Administration Major with a Legal Affairs emphasis. Additional requirements include a minimum 70 credits at time of application, a minimum of 15 units in Political Science coursework at UW-W, and a minimum 3.5 GPA in Major and 3.3 combined GPA overall.

            Loizzo and Loizzo Scholarship

            This awarded to five students with Political Science, Public Policy and Administration, and International Studies majors. Additional requirements include a minimum 70 credits at time of application, a minimum of 15 units of coursework toward their selected major at UWW, and a minimum 3.5 GPA in Major and 3.3 combined GPA overall.

            Institute of Democracy and Civic Engagement Award

            This provides a stipend to a student enrolled in program in the College of Letters and Sciences to complete an internship or field study for academic credit meant to enhance the understanding of American democracy and to cultivate student interest in and appreciation for civic engagement through public service. The recipient must have at least sophomore standing and a 3.0 GPA.

            Political Science Department Writing Award

            This awarded to a student with a Political Science, Public Policy and Administration, or International Studies major or a Political Science, Public Administration, International Studies or Legal Studies minor.
