Zonta Club of Houston Scholarship

Deadline: February 28, 2009. Zonta Club of Houston Young Women in Public Affairs Awards.  Opportunity for Senior Women ( although Junior Women also eligible)  provided by Suzi Feickert, Chair, YWPA Committee. Awards are given annually to pre-university and pre-college women students (age 16-20) committed to the volunteer sector and dedicated to the advancement of the status of women. It is not a scholarship. It starts in the Zonta Clubs and continues at District and International level. The goal of the YWPA Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life.
The progress of women in the last century has dramatically changed the opportunities available to women, yet women’s participation in positions of
public influence continues to lag behind. Though women account for nearly 50 percent of the workforce, only 10 percent hold positions in the world’s parliaments.
Since 1990, the Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Program has encouraged more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
