George O. Albright Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established by the estate of the late George O. Albright, an Austin Peay alumnus. Preference will be given to a native of Montgomery County, Tennessee. Truman Hester Memorial Scholarship
The Montgomery County Republican Women’s Club sponsors this scholarship awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior political science major with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Past recipients may reapply for the scholarship. For further information contact Dr. David Kanervo at (931) 221-7515.
Montgomery County Bar Association – John H. Peay Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2000 to honor the retirement of Judge John Peay. The $500 annual scholarship is for a junior or senior pre-law student with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Selection will be made by the Political Science department scholarship committee. The award is for one year, but junior recipients may reapply. The Williamson-Kanervo Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Drs. Ellen and David Kanervo in 1988 in honor of their parents, Margery and Kibler Williamson and Mary and Arvo Kanervo. This is an endowed scholarship that will be awarded annually to a rising junior. The recipient must be a student in the area of political science or journalism. The Departments of Political Science and Journalism and the Office of Admissions will make recommendations to the General Scholarship Committee. The best qualified student from these two academic areas will be selected. The scholarship award will be $500. When the corpus has grown to a sufficient size that an additional $500 scholarship may be provided without reducing the corpus, a second scholarship will begin, one in journalism and one in political science. The recipient must be enrolled full-time with a minimum 3.0 GPA required for each semester. The recipient will be required to work two hours per week in the department of the student’s major. Charles R. Ray Pre-Law Scholarship
The Charles R. Ray Scholarship is funded by a prominent graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School, Franklin, Kentucky, who completed a Pre-Law degree at Middle Tennessee State University, a Law degree at Vanderbilt University School of Law, and went on to distinguish himself in legal practice in Nashville.
The Harry J. Horne Scholarship has been established in honor of the legendary Canadian Diplomat and specialist in international relations who taught at Middle Tennessee State University from 1983 to 1990.
Norman L. Parks Pre-Law Scholarship
The Norman L. Parks Scholarship has been established to honor a former chair of the Political Science Department who taught at MTSU from 1953 to 1974.

Senior Award in Political Science
An award presented to a Political Science major with senior classification who demonstrates excellence in their academic career at TTU. Recipients receive a cash award and a certificate. The Senior Award for Political Sciecne is considered the department’s highest award for political science majors.
The Paul G. Stephenson Scholarship Endowment
Background:
Paul Stephenson, first chairperson of Political Science, is considered a “quiet institution” by the faculty, who established an endowment in his honor. Stephenson, retired, joined the faculty in 1964, the same year TTU began offering a major in Political Science.
The University of Tennessee- Knoxville
The James O. and Minnie Elliott Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships of approximately $1,000 for deserving and high ranking students in any branch of political science. Financial need is taken into account in granting these awards. Awards will be given to students who will be juniors or seniors during the year they receive the award.
The Ruth Stephens Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships of between $800 and $1,300 per year for students whose interests lay in international relations and/or comparative politics. Recipients must be juniors or seniors during the year they receive the award.
The Edgar G. Guenther Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships for students whose interests lay in municipal government, planning, or related subjects. The Guenther Scholarship gives preference to residents of Kingsport , Tennessee.
The University of Tennessee at Martin
The Wilma and Ernest Newby Scholarship-This full tuition award is made possible by Mr. Carl G. “Butch” Newby in honor of his parents, Wilma and Ernest Newby. It is granted to a junior or senior social science major. Possible military connection or career plans, financial ability and scholarship are main factors in the selection process. Recipients are chosen by a department committee.
