Annual awards for incoming freshmen and undergraduate students planning to attend or currently attending Ashland University, majoring in Political Science. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Due date and number of awards varies. Renewable; must maintain 3.0 GPA.

is awarded each year, by the family, to a political science major.
The Dr. Alice L. Ebel Scholarship
established in 2001, is awarded to women students majoring in political science who desire a career in civic and public service and may be motivated to run for elected office.
The Lorene E. Kennedy Scholarship Fund
established in 1989, is awarded to deserving sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in history, political science or business administration.
The John I. Kolehmainen Scholarship In Political Science
established in 1996, is awarded to incoming first-year students who display an interest in political science and maintain a 3.0 grade point average. The Scholarship is renewable for three years.
World War II Memorial Scholarship Fund
established on Memorial Day, 2004 by Verne, class of 1942, and Evelyn, class of 1943, Atwater, this scholarship honors and remembers those Heidelbergers who sacrificed their lives and promises for the future to protect their loved ones and the “American Dream.” The scholarship is awarded to a deserving student majoring in education, business, political science, music or science.
Ohio University
Sara Katherine Ullman Memorial Internship Award
This memorial scholarship helps support a student on a summer internship with Amnesty International in Washington DC. It is awarded by the Department’s Ullman Internship Committee on the basis of the applicant’s academic record, commitment to human rights and an interest in international affairs. It was established in 1986 by the family of the late Sara Ullman, who was a student at Ohio University at the time of her death. The award reflects her interest in the cause of global human rights.
Karen D. (Jenkins ‘63) King Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to the student winner in an essay contest that deals with U.S. foreign policy. It was created by Judge Rufus King, in memory of his wife Karen. After graduating from Ohio University in 1963, Karen entered the Foreign Service in 1966. She built a distinguished career which included working as an administrative officer in the White House on Henry Kissinger’s staff, as an administrative officer at NATO, and as associate director of the State Department’s office of Management Policy.
Ernest M. and Osie T. Collins Endowed Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was designated by Professor and Mrs. Collins for an outstanding Political Science major to be used during his/her senior year. The sholarship was created in 1984 following Professor Ernest Collins’ retirement after 38 years at Ohio University.
Rev. Robert E. Crawford and Son (Douglas E.) Memorial Scholarship
This memorial scholarship is for an outstanding Political Science major to be used during his/her junior year. It was established by Mrs. Edith C. Crawford in 1994 in memory of her husband, Rev. Dr. Robert E. Crawford ‘43 and her son Douglas.
This scholarship is awarded to the outstanding African American Political Science major. Ms Ramos was an attorney who taught in the Department during the 1969-70 academic year. It is funded by contributions from faculty, colleagues, and students.
Alan Aichinger Memorial Scholarship
His scholarship is awarded to a Political Science Honors Tutorial student who has compiled an outstanding academic record. It was created in 1980 by departmental colleagues, friends, and family of Professor Aichinger. Aichinger taught in the Department’s Honors Tutorial program. He was the program’s first director.
Outstanding Graduating Senior Award
This award is given to the graduating Political Science major with the highest grade point average and the recommendation of his/her professors.
Outstanding Major on a Regional Campus Award
This award is given to the outstanding Poltical Science major on an Ohio University Regional Campus. The Regional Campuses are Chillicothe, Eastern, Lancaster, Southern, and Zanesville.

Jon M. & Edward W. Binder Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship for an undergraduate student in political science entering his/her junior or senior year. Applicants should have a GPA of at least 3.0, demonstrate sustained interest and success in other academic disciplines, and be a good University citizen as reflected in substantial commitment to intercollegiate athletics, student government, or other significant extracurricular activities.
Albin Czerniakowski Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship for a junior or senior political science major who demonstrates financial need. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Michael V. DiSalle Memorial Scholarship
Scholarships for junior or senior political science students interested in government or public service who demonstrate financial need and academic excellence.
Sharron E. Doerner Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship for juniors or seniors majoring in political science who have high academic standing. Award can be based on need and is renewable.
Draghici European Scholarship in Political Science & Public Administration
Scholarship for students in public administration masters program or students majoring in political science. Scholarship is based on merit. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
O. Garfield Jones Memorial Scholarship
Scholarships for sophomore, junior, or senior political science majors.
Edgar T. Kilbride Memorial Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for a sophomore, junior, or senior political science major who has demonstrated academic achievement and has completed a substantial research paper on community politics or local elections.
Daniel G. McNamara Memorial Award
Scholarship for a graduate student in public administration with high academic achievement and an interest in community service. Financial need is not a consideration.
Barney Quilter Good Government Scholarship Fund
Incoming junior or senior meeting a majority of the following criteria: (a) graduated from an Ohio public or private high school in the metropolitan Toledo area (b) major in political science (c) be interested in pursuing a career in government service (d) preference given if in need of financial assistance (e) eligible for membership in political science honor society (f) maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and in political science (g) involved in student government.
Joseph Tomasi Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for senior political science majors with a GPA of 3.0 or better and demonstrated financial need.
David Stevens Wilson Scholarship
Scholarship for undergraduate political science majors at the University of Toledo. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is renewable and is not based on financial need.
