SUNY Fredonia

  • In the spring, the Department presents an annual J. Murdoch and Erna G. Dawley Award to the outstanding Senior in Political Science. The Dawley award was endowed and named in honor of one of the founders and long time Professors in the department, the late Professor J. Murdoch Dawley, J.D., Ph.D., and his wife, Erna Dawley. His students will long remember him.
  • The J. R. Soukup Award is also given in the spring to the outstanding Junior in the department.
  • The J. R. Soukup Scholarship is given to the outstanding first year entering Political Science major. These awards were endowed and named in honor of Professor Emeritus James R. Soukup, Ph.D. Professor Soukup, an authority on East Asian politics, was Chair of the Department from 1970 until 1975. He retired in 1991 and now lives in Harriman, Tennessee.
  • The John R. Quatroche, Jr. Award is given annually to an outstanding Political Science student who demonstrates a very high level of involvement in extra curricula affairs, campus service and leadership. The award was endowed by Drs. J. Robert and Diana J. (Frost) Quatroche (classes of 1963 and 1962 respectively)and named in honor of their son, the late John R. Quatroche, Jr.

Hunter- CUNY

The Political Science Department may award the Joan Pincus Scholarship to students majoring in political science who have achieved at least sophomor status, have an excellent academic record, and have demonstrated financial need. For additional information, see the department chair or the department advisor.

Belle Zeller Scholarship Trust Fund

In 1979, the Professional Staff Congress at CUNY created this program to encourage and recognize excellence among students at the University. The scholarship honors the founding president of the Professional Staff Congress, Belle Zeller, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Brooklyn College, where she taught for over 40 years. The scholarship awards full tuition to registered full-time undergraduates carrying at least 12 credits and who shall have completed at least 16 credits at any branch of CUNY at the time of application. The award requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75, demonstrated evidence of good character, and significant service to CUNY, the community, and/or a particular CUNY college. Community College Belle Zeller Scholars will continue to receive awards if they transfer to four-year colleges within CUNY and remain in good standing.

Siena College

The Mary Theresa Dana Memorial Scholarship

was established by John and Carol Dana in loving memory of their sister, Mary. The scholarship is to be awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and are interested in pursuing a major in History or Political Science.

The Dr. William L. Pfeiffer Scholarship

established and sponsored by the Albany Savings Bank, recognizes the deep personal commitment which Dr. Pfeiffer has exhibited toward higher education, the banking and business communities, and politics, as well as regional, state, and national affairs. Two scholarships are awarded to upperclass students with an interest in business, banking or political science. The scholarship will be based on financial need and academic eligibility. Preference is given to New York State residents and the scholarship may be renewed.

SUNY- Stony Brook

Davidson Family Scholarship ($2,000)

Awarded to a junior or senior in Political Science, who is a veteran of the armed forces or Coast Guard of the United States.

Michael Gramer Honors Thesis Award ($2,000)

This award provides $2,000 ($1,000 per semester) to a student writing an Honor’s thesis in Political Science.

Patricia E. Herman Award ($750)

This award provides $750 to a junior or senior in Political Science with an interest in urban planning and/or environmental issues.

Irene Kondorousis Manoussos Pikoulas Scholarship ($2,000/award)

Awarded to three students in Political Science, completion of whose studies might not be possible without this award.

Dr. Connie and Dr. Lee Koppelman Scholarships ($1,000/award)

Awarded to five high-achieving upper division students (juniors and seniors) who are majoring in either Women’s Studies and/or Political Science and have demonstrated financial need.

Martin B. Travis Award ($1,500)

This award provides $1,500 to a student completing a major in Political Science who plans to attend law school.
