Anthony “Tony” Gobar Juvenile Justice Scholarship Fund

Established in 2005, The Anthony “Tony” Gobar Scholarship Fund is named in honor of Anthony Gobar of Jackson, a long-time juvenile justice advocate. The Fund will provide an annual cash scholarship based on both merit and need for a full-time junior or senior at a public university in Mississippi or Southern University in Louisiana majoring in criminal justice, political science or counseling. The student must have a stated career interest in juvenile justice or a similar field and have demonstrated a strong commitment to community and public service.

MSU proudly offers graduating high school seniors and community college graduates John C. Stennis Scholarships in Political Science. The Stennis Scholarships, established to honor this illustrious alumnus of the University, are annually awarded to promising young Mississippians with a strong commitment to public service.

The Howard H. Stone Memorial Award For Freshman Achievement In Political Science

was established in 2006 by The University of Mississippi College of Liberal Arts to honor in perpetuity Howard H. Stone and to assist deserving men and women at The University of Mississippi. The recipient will be a full-time sophomore political science major student who has demonstrated classroom achievement during his/her freshman year.

The Trent Lott Scholarship

To be awarded to a political science major with at least a 3.0 GPA with a minimum of 70 university hours.  Recipient must be a Mississippi resident that exhibits leadership in University and community activities.

Frank D. Montague, Jr. Paralegal Studies Endowment

For an incoming junior majoring in paralegal studies in the Political Science Department.  Student to be selected by the department based on merit.

Alfred Moore Pre-law Endowment Scholarship

To a junior or senior studying Pre-law who clearly demonstrates financial need.  To be selected by the Chair of the Department of Political Science and faculty members.

Leon and Ivah Wilbur Scholarship

To an outstanding senior in political science who plans to do graduate work at Southern Miss.

Richard Wayne McKenzie Scholarship

To a capable and deserving student in Pre-law with a 3.0 from Forrest or Perry County.

Bill Porter Memorial Scholarship

To a student studying Pre-law who clearly demonstrates financial need.

W.M. Colmer Scholarship

Students in American Studies area who demonstrate the ideals which Mr. Colmer held in love, loyalty, and patriotism in his country.

Nancy and Jim Goodwin Political Science Scholarship

Scholarship to be awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in political science.  Five hundred ($500.00) is to be awarded in both the fall and spring each year.  Preference is to be given to a non-traditional student whose family responsibilities interrupted their education.   A 3.0 GPA is required for scholarship.  Financial need is to be considered but not a controlling factor.  Department chair is to coordinate selection of scholarship recipient.

The Susan and William G. Sansing, Sr. Political Science Graduate Scholarship

To provide scholarship assistance to a graduate student studying political science.  The recipient is to be selected by the Graduate Advisor in the Department of Political Science.

The Ronald G. Marquardt Endowed Scholarship

To provide a scholarship to an outstanding pre-law political science major or paralegal studies major who has completed to hours of university credit.  Selection shall be made by the department scholarship committee.

The Jim Robertson Political Science Award

To be awarded to an upperclass level (can be a transferring junior college student) or graduate level political science major who has demonstrated exceptional aptitude for the study of political science.  Special consideration should be given to a student that has encountered a significant challenge in pursuing his/her degree in political science.

The Kristin M. Smith Scholarship Fund

To provide an annual scholarship in the amount of $500.00 to a female student beginning her junior year.  Student must be a pre-law major.  The scholarship is not limited to students in political science.  If a junior does not qualify, the scholarship is to be offered to a senior female student.

The Gulf Coast Political Science Scholarship

To provide a scholarship to an outstanding political science major pursuing a degree on the Gulf Coast campus.  Selection shall be made by the Gulf Coast Assistant Dean for the College of Arts & Letters or by a committee s/he designates.
