Michael and Charlotte Baer Scholarships

These scholarships assist political science majors on study abroad, internships abroad, or international co-op assignments. The grants are typically $200-$500 and can be used to help defray travel and other overseas expenses. This scholarship was created by Michael Baer, a political scientist and former Provost of Northeastern University.

Robert L. Cord Endowed Book Fund

Awards from this fund help to defray the costs of books and other course materials. Students majoring in the social sciences, humanities and arts are eligible. Middlers must have a 3.0 or higher QPA, and juniors and seniors must have a 3.25 or higher QPA. This fund was established by Robert Cord, a former member of the Political Science faculty.

Sean Patrick O’Rourke Scholarship

At the beginning of each fall term, a small number of scholarships are given to junior or senior Political Science majors with top grade point averages and financial need. This scholarship fund was established by the parents of Sean O’Rourke, a Northeastern political science major killed in an automobile accident in 1989. The department identifies recipients of this scholarship.

George Goodwin, Jr. Scholarship
Granted annually to an academically strong Political Science major who has expressed and demonstrated an interest in a career in public services.

David C. Knapp Scholarship
Granted annually to Political Science majors who have compiled the most outstanding records of academic achievement.  In recent years about 8-12 Knapp Scholarships have been awarded.  Recipients are normally selected during their Junior year, making the scholarship funds available during their Senior year.

Tracey Lee Maker Memorial Scholarship
Granted annually to a full-time Political Science major on the basis of, first, demonstrated financial need and, second, outstanding academic achievement.  Recipients are normally selected during their Sophomore or Junior years, making scholarship funds available the following year.

James P. Pappas Presidential Scholarship
Provides scholarship assistance to students enrolled at the Amherst campus majoring in Political Science who exhibit high academic achievement and some level of financial need.

Luther A. Allen Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund will be to endow awards for undergraduate students in good academic standing with demonstrated interest in international relations, and Francophile studies including French-speaking nations and/or provinces. The Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences will select recipient and administer the Fund.
