Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship
Eligibility
Who May Apply: (specifically) High school graduates who have been accepted for enrollment at institutions of higher education (IHEs), have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, and show promise of continued academic excellence may apply to states in which they are residents. The Department provides grant funds to states on a formula basis.
An eligible student applicant must, during the same secondary academic year in which the scholarship is to be awarded: (1) be a graduate of a public or private secondary school or have received the recognized equivalent of a high school diploma (GED); (2) be a legal resident of the State in which he or she applies; (3) be a U.S. citizen or national of the United States or have evidence from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service that he or she is a permanent resident or is in the United States for other than a temporary purpose; (4) has applied or been accepted for enrollment at an institution of higher education; (5) certify that he or she is not ineligible to receive assistance as a result of default on a Federal student loan or other obligation; and (6) file, with the school that he or she plans to attend, a Statement of Selective Service Registration Status. A student attending a military academy is ineligible to receive a Byrd scholarship.

Walter Hartwell Bennett Memorial Endowed Political Science Scholarship Fund
ELIGIBILITY: Must be a full-time. outstanding student pursuing a degree in political science; scholarship is awarded for the student’s senior year.
Samuel F. Clabaugh Scholarship Fund
ELIGIBILITY: Outstanding juniors pursuing degrees in political science; applicants must be sophomores; awards are based on scholastic achievements and financial needs.

The John Carl Powell Memorial Scholarship
The John Carl Powell Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 in loving memory of John Carl Powell, a 1983 UAH History graduate. Mr. Powell is warmly remembered by his family, colleagues, and friends for his intelligence, sensitivity, and intellectual curiosity. The scholarship is awarded to students at the sophomore level or above who are enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts, with preference given to students majoring in History, Political Science, or English, and is based on academic merit, citizenship, and leadership with regard to demonstrated financial need. This scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years. The student must maintain a full-time course load (12 credit hours) each semester. In addition, recipients must complete a total of 24 credit hours each academic year and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to be eligible for renewal. Students should submit a scholarship application every year in order to update their files and possibly be eligible for other awards.
The University of North Alabama
Pre-law students nominated by Department of History and Political Science. Preference given to rising seniors who are Pre-Law majors. This scholarship is for one academic year only, but prior recipients may reapply.
University of South Alabama
Awarded to an outstanding junior or senior student in political science. All aid applicants are considered.
Myrtice Tyson Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to one female student/criminal justice major who plans a career in Law Enforcement. Submit your letter of interest to the Myrtice Tyson Memorial Scholarship Awards Committee, Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice, describing your career interest in law enforcement.
University of Montevallo
Annual award for undergraduate who is a sophomore, junior or senior attending the University of Montevallo in Alabama to study Political Science. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Award amount varies. Renewable.
