Washington, D.C. – September 15th, 2009

Thousands of young people, including myself, were inspired and moved by NBC’s “The West Wing” with Martin Sheen. The West Wing showed us the best of American service and public life. For me, the show instilled a deep desire to work in politics, or as I like to call it, “professional political service.”
Like many young people, I moved to Washington, D.C. in hopes of making it in politics, and making a difference. However, when I arrived, I was surprised to discover that there were very few career guides to politics. I searched for an organization to guide me, like the American Bar Association for young lawyers, or the AMA for young doctors, but found little. So, after a few months of searching, I gave up trying to find one, and decided to create one.
In September of 2008, with the help of The Graduate School of Political Management and an amazing team of advisory board members, I began to create a one-stop shop for detailed information about careers in politics. I wanted to build a website with exclusive interviews, in-depth articles, and insightful advice about the day-to-day life of political professionals. I wanted visitors to come away with a comprehensive understanding of what their potential career would be like. I also wanted to create a site that provided job seeking tips, resume building advice, and a support structure, for young people in politics.
It was a long year of planning, website building, interviews, and meetings. Our team worked amazingly hard, and what is even more amazing, was that many of them did it for free. Now, after countless hours of hard work, the dream of an interactive place to become informed about careers in politics has become a reality.
PoliticsUnder30.org’s mission is to “Help the Young People of Today Become the Political Leaders of Tomorrow.” Our current team goes to the halls of Congress, campaign rallies, speeches, the White House and every other place politics happens. We interview the most talented and accomplished professionals in the field, and bring them back to you.
A talented team of young people runs PoliticsUnder30.org. Our goal is community, not hierarchy. We believe that the best way to serve our audience – you – is to engage and communicate your ideas and suggestions.
We are building a community of young people in politics, so that our voices can have a more powerful impact. This site will bring young political professionals and aspiring politicos together to network and learn. There are a ton of resources on PoliticsUnder30.org for you to take advantage of including interviews and resume building advice. If there is something you don’t see, tell us about it, and we will go get it for you. If you want us to interview someone or cover another career in politics, let us know. We are here to ensure that you have all the information and tools you need to become a successful political professional.
